St. Thomas Aquinas: “Nothing But You, O Lord” | A Reflection on Desire with Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress
This Catholic reflection for the feast of St. Thomas Aquinas explores the saint’s famous prayer, “Nothing but You, O Lord,” and invites us to ask God to purify and reorder our desires.
Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress, O.P., reflects on one of the most striking moments in the life of St. Thomas Aquinas: when the Lord offers him a reward, and Thomas responds with a single desire—nothing but the Lord himself.
Through the intercession of St. Thomas Aquinas, Dominican friar and Doctor of the Church, we are invited to examine our own hearts and ask that our desires may be purified, reordered, and directed toward God alone. St. Thomas teaches us that the deepest desire of the human heart is not success, knowledge, or recognition, but God himself.
Please know that we are praying for you as friars, and we ask you to pray for us on this feast day of our brother, St. Thomas Aquinas.

Why Catholics Carry God Through the City | O Come, All Ye Faithful
Hidden under the humble sign of bread, Jesus moves through the world he made. Many will never cross the threshold of a church—but in a Eucharistic procession, God comes to them, carrying his presence into the streets he loves and the world he saves.
This Eucharistic procession in New York City offers a rare witness to Christ, truly present in the Eucharist, going out to meet the world he made, the world he loves, and the world he saves. The procession is accompanied by the voices of the Schola Cantorum of the Dominican House of Studies, singing O Come, All Ye Faithful.
Whether you are Catholic or simply curious about the faith, this video provides a moving glimpse into the beauty of a Catholic Eucharistic procession, showing how God’s presence can touch every corner of the city.

A Thank You from the Dominican Friars as We Close the Year | Fr. John Paul Kern, O.P.
As the year comes to a close, Fr. John Paul Kern, O.P. offers a message of gratitude to all who support the Dominican Friars with their prayers and generosity.
Over the past year, God has brought forth much fruit through the preaching and ministry of the friars. We celebrated the ordination of new priests, welcomed thousands of pilgrims to Washington, D.C., for the Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, and saw continued growth in the Thomistic Institute, now present on campuses across the country. Alongside these moments, friars continue their daily service in parishes, classrooms, hospitals, and campus ministries.
As we look ahead to 2025, the Dominican Friars entrust their work to God and ask for your continued prayers, that he may bring to completion the good work he has begun.

How Theology Answers the Questions of Philosophy w/ Fr. James Brent, O.P. | Ep. 159
How can Catholics engage with the mystery of God through reason and faith?
Dr. Michael Dauphinais sits down with Fr. James Brent, O.P., assistant professor of philosophy at the Dominican House of Studies. They explore how philosophy in the perennial tradition raises profound questions about God’s existence, His plan, the problem of evil, the human soul, life after death, and the pursuit of ultimate happiness, questions that are finally only answered by faith in God's revelation in Jesus Christ. They also discuss Fr. Brent's recent book The Father’s House: Discovering Our Home in the Trinity.

Our Lady of the Rosary: Finding Victory Through Persevering Prayer | Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress, O.P.
Today the Church celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary—once known as the Feast of Our Lady of Victory. In this reflection, Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress, O.P., shares how the rosary has shaped his own life and why this prayer is a powerful weapon in both great historical moments and our daily spiritual battles.
Whether in the victory at Lepanto in 1571 or in the hidden struggles of the heart, Our Lady intercedes for us and leads us to Christ. Even when prayer feels dry or distracted, fidelity in the rosary is itself a victory of grace.
Watch now and join us in asking: Our Lady of Victory, pray for us.

Dominican Friars Make First Profession of Vows | August 15, 2025
On August 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, our brothers made their First Profession of Vows at St. Gertrude Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. By professing obedience, poverty, and chastity, they enter more deeply into the life of St. Dominic and the mission of the Order of Preachers.
As Fr. Raymond La Grange, O.P., reminds us: “By professing obedience to St. Dominic, we place ourselves under his direction. We fulfill our part of the obedience by continuing, centuries later, to carry out the mission which he inaugurated.”
Following their profession, these newly professed friars begin their academic studies at the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception (PFIC) at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. Their time in study—“the wood of the desk is the wood of the cross”—is a sacrifice that prepares them for a lifetime of preaching rooted in the Dominican intellectual tradition.
Please keep our brothers in your prayers as they begin this next stage of their journey in religious life.

Meet One of the First Saints of Pope Leo XIV - Pier Giorgio Frassati
Join EWTN’s Colm Flynn as he travels across Italy with a group of young men from the United States on a life-changing pilgrimage in honor of soon-to-be saint, Pier Giorgio Frassati.
Starting in Turin, the city where Frassati was born and raised, the pilgrims visit the places he prayed, served the poor, and lived out his deep Catholic faith — all while coming to understand how his joy, charity, and love for God continue to inspire young people today.
Led by Fr. Vincent Berhnard, O.P., the journey takes them to breathtaking locations like the Sanctuary of Oropa, where they climb the same mountain Frassati once hiked; Pollone, where they explore his family’s summer home; and Rome, where they pray at his tomb and conclude their pilgrimage with Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica.
Along the way, the pilgrims share how the experience is challenging them physically, inspiring them spiritually, and giving them a deeper sense of purpose — following Frassati’s motto to “live to the fullest” and “verso l’alto” (“to the heights”).
📍 Locations visited:
Turin – Birthplace of Pier Giorgio Frassati
Sanctuary of Oropa – Mountain pilgrimage
Pollone – Frassati family summer home
Rome – Tomb of Pier Giorgio & St. Peter’s Basilica

Is it possible to love too much? Not when it comes to our heavenly mother. Fr. He explains that Mary sets herself up "as an icon, not an idol, allowing our gaze to pass through her, to her Son. And she doesn’t upend the place of Christ, rather she extends it to us, with the care of a mother.”

Fr. Gregory Pine, O.P. - The Holy Rosary, Our Recourse on Earth
The Rosary has a way of ensnaring us. But what we come to discover is that in being ensnared, we are saved. Fr. Gregory Pine teaches us that the Rosary asks of us a kind of contemplative stance—because we're actually "heaven-dwellers" here on earth—we're all called to be contemplatives. And we can do this by contemplating the saving mysteries of Christ. The mysteries we pray in the Rosary accompany us in this life, ultimately saving us! At his annunciation, Christ is saving. At his visitation, Christ is saving. At his nativity, Christ is saving. At his presentation, Christ is saving. All the way down the line, Christ is saving. And we contemplate these mysteries in union with Mary, the one who enjoys the most intimate union with her Son. She helps us to see joy, to see light, to see sorrow, and to see glory.

From her preservation from sin to her steadfast trust in God’s will, Mary offers us a profound example of humility and faith.

God’s ways are mysterious and wonderful. As an infant, Br. Charles Rooney, O.P., was baptized at St. Vincent Ferrer Church in New York. At our inaugural Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, Fr. And she prays now in a better way, “in the light of glory, in the open vision of God.” And all the voices of heaven summon us from above, beckoning us. “Come, join us around the woman clothed with the sun. Pick up your Rosary. Eyes on Christ. Pray God to send the Spirit of Truth to lead us into all truth.”

Feast Day Reflections
Merry Christmas from the Dominican Friars!
Merry Christmas! The Christ child is born.
Fr. Bonaventure Chapman, O.P., shares a Dominican way of seeing Christmas: the child in the manger is already the Savior who goes to the Cross. Christmas is ordered toward Easter. The Word takes flesh so that he may suffer, die, and rise for us. What looks small and ordinary is the beginning of everything.
As you pause before the nativity this Christmas, look again. Within the crib are the Cross and the Resurrection.
Why We Celebrate the Immaculate Conception | Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress, O.P.
Why was Mary conceived without sin?
Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress, O.P., breaks down the Immaculate Conception and God’s grace that prepared her to give humanity to Christ.
Celebrating the Presentation of Mary
On the feast of the Presentation of Mary, Fr. Aquinas Guilbeau, O.P., reminds us how God prepares each of us for the missions he calls us to—just as he prepared Mary from her earliest days to be the Mother of the Savior.

The Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael
Today the Church celebrates the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael—Archangels!
On this great feast, Fr. Gabriel Torretta, O.P., encourages you to pray to St. Michael, to fight for you against the deadly powers of the enemy; to St. Gabriel, to fill you with the knowledge of God’s Word; and to St. Raphael, to heal and protect you from anything that might draw you away from Jesus Christ.
Fr. Charles Rooney, O.P. | Our Lady of Sorrows
The day after we exalt the cross of Christ, we enter into the sorrows of his mother at its foot.
Fr. Charles Rooney, O.P., reminds us that we do not need to bear our crosses alone; we braced by the maternal love of Our Lady who knew the sadness of the cross, yet none of the sadness of sin.
The Passion of St. John the Baptist
Fr. John Baptist Huong, O.P., reminds us that when we preach the truth like John the Baptist, we’re bringing people to their ultimate happiness: eternal life with God in heaven.
St. Augustine of Hippo: Our Spiritual Father
Reflecting on the Rule of St. Augustine, Fr. Augustine Reisenauer, O.P., remarked, “As the Rule of Augustine reads, ‘Before all else, live together in harmony being of one mind and of one heart on the way to God.’ Dominic adopted the Rule of Augustine when founded the Order of Preachers, and so as Dominicans we seek to live out together nothing else than this love of God in Jesus Christ.”
Fr. Bernard Knapke, O.P. on St. Bernard of Clairvaux
Fr. Bernard Knapke, O.P., shares a short reflection on the legacy of St. Bernard, his namesake. “He was a seductively effective preacher,” Fr. Bernard says.
“We hear some of his sermons on our Blessed Mother in the liturgy even today, and we can pray to St. Bernard today for more effective preaching in the Church, for an increase in vocations to the consecrated life, and for our own salvation and sanctification.”
Fr. Maximilian Jaskowak, O.P. on St. Maximilian Kolbe
Fr. Maximilian Maria Jaskowak, O.P., offers a meditation on the holiness and inspiring witness of his patron saint.
Happy Solemnity of St. Dominic!
On this Solemnity of St. Dominic, Fr. Patrick Briscoe, O.P., joins us from the entrance to the cloister at Santa Maria Sopra Minerva—one of the great Dominican churches in Rome. Behind him is a rare fresco of our founder asleep, a mystical vision confirming his hope to found the Order of Preachers.
That vision continues to bear fruit by drawing souls to Christ through the Virgin Mary, especially through the preaching and praying of the Holy Rosary.
Happy Solemnity from the Dominican Friars!
St. Dominic: Confident in Hope, Firm in Purpose
Fr. Dominic Verner, O.P., reflects on the life and grace of our Holy Father St. Dominic.
The Feast of the Transfiguration: A Pledge of Future Glory
Fr. Benedict Croell, O.P., reflects on the transfiguration of Jesus Christ and how we are drawn into his transfiguration—being transformed by him through the gift of the Eucharist.

The Summa for Beginners: The Moral Life w/Fr. Romanus Cessario O.P. | Ep. 164
How can Catholics understand the moral life within the framework of Saint Thomas Aquinas’s Summa Theologiae?
Dr. Michael Dauphinais is joined by Fr. Romanus Cessario, a Dominican priest and the Adam Cardinal Maida Professor of Catholic Theology at Ave Maria University, to explore the moral theology presented in the second part of the Summa. They discuss how Aquinas situates moral theology between God’s creation and Christ’s redemption, emphasizing the pursuit of beatitude, the role of natural law as an imprint of divine providence, and the theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity.

Feast of the Guardian Angels: Our Spiritual Protectors and Heavenly Guides | EWTN News Nightly
The Church celebrates the Feast of the Guardian Angels, honoring the spiritual protectors assigned to each person. This belief is rooted in Scripture—particularly Matthew 18—where Jesus says, “Do not despise one of these little ones, for their angels in heaven always look upon the face of the Father.” Devotion to guardian angels began in the early monastic tradition with St. Benedict and later with St. Bernard of Clairvaux. The feast was officially added to the Roman calendar in 1615 by Pope Paul V. Catholics are encouraged to foster a relationship with their guardian angel through prayer. Father Patrick Mary Briscoe, host of the Godsplaining podcast, joins to answer common questions about guardian angels and offers advice for people to get to know their guardian angel better.

If You Think God Can't Forgive You Again (feat. Fr. Jonah Teller, O.P.)
After running to confession in the the sacrament of reconciliation over and over again, things can start to get disheartening. A demonic little voice in our heads can start to say "you're never going to be free of this." But this is a blatant lie.
God can—and will—forgive any sins that we're truly sorry for. The only thing God can't work with is that very lie—the despair that he won't forgive us again, that we can't be free of its grasp.
Fr. Mark-Mary, CFR and Fr. Jonah Teller, O.P. tell us how to endure the storm of sin and cling to God—no matter what.

Life of the Friars
Six Paths To The Priesthood
Six men share what inspired them to serve God and His people as Catholic priests in the Order of Preachers.
Corpus Christi in New York City
“At the sight of the crowds, Jesus’ heart was moved with pity for them.”
Matthew 9:36
Jesus’ heart is still moved by the crowds. He sees us in the realities of our lives, in our sufferings…and he’s moved with compassion, so much so that he wants to give himself to us. In the Eucharist, Jesus is as present to us in the streets of our modern-day cities as he was when he traversed Galilee and Jerusalem two thousand years ago. Follow him where he leads you. #RealPresence
Nine New Dominican Priests
Nine Dominican Friars were ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Earl Fernandes on Saturday, May 20, 2023. In his homily, Bishop Fernandes told the newly ordained priests “to reflect on the stream of blessings that flow from the hands of priests—your hands. Each of you, called to bless, are a blessing to your Order and to the whole Church.” #Priesthood

LYRICS:
Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life:
such a way as gives us breath,
such a truth as ends all strife,
such a life as killeth death.
Come, my Light, my Feast, my Strength:
such a light as shows a feast,
such a feast as mends in length,
such a strength as makes his guest.
Come, my Joy, my Love, my Heart:
such a joy as none can move,
such a love as none can part,
such a heart as joys in love.

Good Christian Men, Rejoice!

http://dominicanfriars.org/good-christian-men-rejoice
Visit: http://dominicanfriars.org
Nearly seven hundred years ago, a Dominican friar named Henry Suso had a vision of angels singing and dancing with joy about the birth of the Infant Jesus. The German preacher and mystic poet was soon swept up by the angelic song, and penned the Christmas hymn In Dulci Jubilo as a result. In the loose translation familiar to many today, we sing,
Good Christian men, rejoice
With heart and soul and voice;
Now ye need not fear the grave;
Jesus Christ was born to save!
Calls you one and calls you all
To gain his everlasting hall.
Christ was born to save!
Watch the video of the friars of the Dominican House of Studies as they continue this tradition of celebrating Christmas with a new album, Christ Was Born to Save, (digital and physical copies available for purchase) proceeds from which will support the Dominican students in Washington, D.C. The album features such timeless favorites as Away in a Manger, O Come, All Ye Faithful, and Silent Night, along with many other beautiful carols, chants, and choral works. All the music on this album flows from our prayerful contemplation of this great mystery: that God became man to save us from ourselves, and make us more like him.
Christ was born to save. This is what caused the angels to sing and dance in Blessed Henry’s vision, and is the true source of Christmas joy. God fulfilled his promise to restore creation to friendship with him through his Chosen People. Once again, God proved faithful to a mistrustful humanity, and confounded their doubts and expectations in the most extraordinary ways. The Lord of Hosts, robed in majesty, became a lowly child, bundled in swaddling clothes. And why? That, as he shares our humanity, we may share in his divinity, by becoming adopted sons and daughters of God.
Christ was born for this. The crib points to the Cross, and to the Resurrection still further. God has truly become man, and it means that we may share in his victory over sin and death. The sacred songs and chants of Christmas recorded by our schola in the resonant acoustic of Washington’s Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land recount this tremendous mystery. “Rejoice, rejoice!” we hear in the carol Gaudete, “with nature marveling, the world has been renewed by Christ who is reigning. The closed gate of Ezekiel is passed through.” Likewise, in the beloved Marian hymn Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming, we praise the “True man, yet very God, from sin and death he saves us, and lightens every load.” The heavenly choirs announce in Hark, the Herald Angels Sing, that Christ was “Born that man no more may die, born to raise the sons of earth, born to give them second birth!”
Christ was born to save. And so we cannot help but rejoice at “the dawn of redeeming grace,” (Silent Night), as we beseech this Child, “Born to die upon the Tree…to assoil [absolve] and save us all,” (Blessed Be That Maid Mary). “Be near me, Lord Jesus,” we pray in Away in a Manger, “And fit us for heaven, to live with thee there.” For “Though an infant now we view him, he shall fill his Father’s throne, gather all the nations to him; every knee shall then bow down,” (Angels from the Realms of Glory).
Christ was born for this: that we should trust once more in God’s faithfulness, and “gain his everlasting hall.” This Christmas, may God lead us all to “rejoice with heart and soul and voice” in so great a Savior.

Hillbilly Thomists in Cincinnati, OH
Six hundred people crowded into the parish center at Saint Gertrude Church, home to the Dominican novitiate for the Province of Saint Joseph to watch the Hillbilly Thomists during their 2022 tour.
In the summer of 2022, following the release of their Billboard-charting album, Holy Ghost Power, The Hillbilly Thomists took to the road for The Old Highway Tour.
Starting at Saint Vincent Ferrer Church in Manhattan, the friars made their way to the band’s birthplace in Washington, DC, and continued on through Pittsburgh, Chicago, Cincinnati, Nashville, and Cleveland, with a tank full of Americana favorites, Bluegrass standards, and original songs.
A band such as this is hard to find. For The Hillbilly Thomists remain Friars Preachers even when on the stage, a dynamic that gives each show a spiritual itinerary of its own, passing through this world below unto the bright land of that New City lit by the Lamb.

Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on Matthew 4 and the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry. When John the Baptist is arrested, Jesus steps forward proclaiming a single message: repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. The kingdom is not a political order or an abstract reality—it is Jesus Himself.
Repentance is not defined by fixation on sin or brokenness, but by a turning toward Christ. Conversion is not primarily about what we leave behind, but about whom we turn toward. Wherever the King is, there the kingdom is. Through the sacraments, Christ draws us into Himself, makes all things new, and brings us into the life of the kingdom that never passes away.

Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on John 1 and the strange confession of St. John the Baptist, who sees Jesus repeatedly yet insists that he did not know Him. Sight alone, even religious experience, is not enough to know who Christ truly is.
Faith begins when we believe not because we see or verify, but because God has revealed the truth. The Christian life falters when Jesus becomes an instrument for our plans rather than the end Himself. Holiness is not achieved through self-improvement or strategy, but through a simple, consuming union with Jesus, in whom we finally know who He is—and who we are.

Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on the Baptism of the Lord and St. Peter’s proclamation that God shows no partiality. Through the sacrament of Baptism, Jesus does not merely affirm who we already are, but truly changes us—configuring us to Himself and giving us a new identity as adopted sons and daughters of God.
While God is open to all, we often cling to our own partiality, accepting only a version of God that fits our preferences and priorities. Baptism cuts through this limitation. God’s loving non-partiality transforms us, draws us out of ourselves, and unites us to Christ in a way that is not symbolic but real, sacramental, and saving.

Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on Matthew 2 and the different responses to the birth of Jesus. While the Magi rejoice at the coming of the newborn King, Herod and all Jerusalem are troubled. The same Savior who brings peace also exposes what resists being changed.
Jesus does not save partially or selectively. His kingship reaches every part of the human person—nothing lies outside His transforming love. The Gospel still provokes the same question today: will we rejoice at the Savior who gives Himself completely, or fear the love that leaves nothing unchanged?

Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on Colossians 3 and Ephesians 5 and St. Paul’s teaching on marriage. These passages are often read as statements about authority or hierarchy, but St. Paul is revealing the measure of Christian love itself—Christ’s love for the Church.
Husbands are called to love as Christ loves, by giving everything without reserve. Wives respond with the Church’s total self-gift to Christ. Marriage is not an abstract ideal or a social arrangement, but a sacramental participation in the saving love of Jesus, made possible by grace and lived in the concrete reality of daily life.

Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on Matthew 1 and the naming of Jesus. The angel commands Joseph to name the child Jesus because He will save His people from their sins. Jesus is not merely a title or a symbol—His name reveals who He is and what He does.
In a world where words often deceive, God does not lie. Names correspond to reality. Jesus means Savior, and Emmanuel means God with us. In Christ, salvation is not theoretical but sacramental and present now. The One who was born of the Virgin still saves, still speaks truth, and still remains with His people.

Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on James 5 and the meaning of Christian patience. St. James calls us to wait for the Lord, but Christian waiting is never passive. Christ already comes to us in the sacraments and in faith, shaping our minds, loves, and daily actions.
We wait for Jesus by waiting with Jesus. The same Lord who will appear in glory is the Lord who is present now, and those who live in union with Him today will not be surprised when He comes. Every moment gains eternal meaning when lived in His presence.

Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on John the Baptist in Matthew 3 as the pattern for every Christian in public life. John is the greatest of the prophets and the least before Christ — a man who knows his gifts and vocation only in relation to the Lord. He baptizes with water for repentance, yet points entirely to the One who is mightier, whose baptism with the Holy Spirit and fire eclipses his own. John shows that magnanimity and humility meet in a life wholly ordered to Jesus. In a world of platforms and personalities, he teaches us to be great and small at the same time — always pointing to Christ, always finding ourselves in Him.

Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on on Matthew 24 and Jesus’ command to “stay awake.” Two men in the field, two women at the mill—both groups are working, alert, active, and yet Jesus says only one is truly awake. The difference is not physical awareness but spiritual attentiveness.
It is possible to live a good life, fulfill duties, and still be asleep to the One who matters most. Prayer is not merely asking for things—it is the raising of the mind to God. By turning our thoughts to Jesus throughout the day, in love and recollection, we remain awake to His coming.

Jesus Is Thinking Only of You | The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. shares his insights on Luke 23:35-43
Subscribe: https://youtube.com/catholictheology
Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on Luke 23 and the three attitudes toward salvation revealed at the crucifixion. The rulers and soldiers claim Jesus must save Himself. The first criminal admits his need for salvation but still thinks Jesus must save Himself first. Only the good thief understands who Jesus is, turning to Him simply and humbly: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
Jesus has no need of salvation. He alone is Savior, and to be remembered by Him is to be united to Him—caught up into His loving knowledge and mercy. The one who entrusts himself to Christ receives what Christ alone can give: “Today you will be with me in paradise.”

Strange Distractions in Prayer | Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. shares his insights on Luke 21:5-19
Subscribe: https://youtube.com/catholictheology
Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on Luke 21 and the striking truth that we can speak with Jesus—and even discuss what He speaks about—yet still miss Him. In the Gospel, people focus on the temple’s beauty and signs instead of the Savior before them. So too in prayer, we can become absorbed by circumstances rather than by Christ Himself. Jesus never loses sight of His mission, our salvation, and the saints are simply those so captivated by Him that they forget themselves.

God’s Divine Economics | Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome
Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. shares his insights on John 2:13-22
Subscribe: https://youtube.com/catholictheology
Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on John 2 and Jesus driving the money changers from the temple. Far from mere anger, this moment reveals the true economy of divine worship. We often approach God with a spirit of exchange—offering prayers or promises in return for blessings—but Jesus overturns every form of spiritual bartering. In the economy of salvation, God gives 100% of Himself and invites us to give 100% of ourselves in return. Nothing less captures the fullness of His love or our response of faith.

Seeing Jesus is Our Salvation | The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed
Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. shares his insights on John 6:37-40

Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on John 6 and Jesus’ words: “This is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have eternal life.” Salvation is not partial—it is the redemption of the whole person, body and soul. Seeing Christ is not mere sight, but the union of knowing and being known, faith leading to communion. In this life, we see through faith; in heaven, through glory. The Christian life is the journey of learning to see and know Jesus ever more clearly.

The Gospel Is Not About Being a “Good Person” | Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. shares his insights on Luke 18:9-14
Subscribe: https://youtube.com/catholictheology
Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on Luke 18 and the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector. The Pharisee prays to himself, comparing his goodness to others, while the tax collector simply cries out for mercy. In truth, salvation does not come through comparison or self-justification. We are not saved by being “good people,” but by receiving God’s mercy in humility. The one who looks to Jesus, not to himself, goes home justified.

The Power of Persistent Prayer | Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. shares his insights on Luke 18:1-8
Subscribe: https://youtube.com/catholictheology
Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on Luke 18 and the parable of the persistent widow and the dishonest judge. Jesus teaches the necessity of praying always, but the parable ultimately reveals something deeper about Him. The true parallel is not between God and the judge, but between Jesus and the widow—both are those who come. Jesus continually comes before the Father and continually comes for us, inviting us into His own prayer and faith. In Him, perseverance in prayer becomes participation in the very life of God.

The Gospel Is Not an Ideal | Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. shares his insights on 2 Timothy 2:8-13
Subscribe: https://youtube.com/catholictheology
Fr. Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. reflects on 2 Timothy 2 and St. Paul’s profound words, “Such is my gospel, for which I am suffering.” The gospel is not an abstract ideal or distant truth, but a deeply personal reality—my gospel, your gospel. Jesus came not to love us from afar, but to love us from within, to draw us into union with Himself. Every grace, every sacrament, every moment of His saving work is for us personally. The good news is not only about Jesus—it is Jesus, and He is yours.

Aquinas 101
How Does Marriage Sanctify Spouses? (Aquinas 101)
St. Thomas Aquinas wrote that every sacrament is a “sign of a holy thing so far as it makes men holy.” As a sacrament, matrimony has a special, supernatural power to make us holy.
St. Benedict calls the monastery the workshop or school for monks to grow in holiness; for the married, home is that workshop, that school.
In this Aquinas 101 episode, Prof. John A. Cuddeback, Ph.D., examines marriage as a school of virtue.

Suffering in Marriage (Aquinas 101)
Anyone who has been married for any length of time knows that suffering is a major feature of married life, just as it is a major feature of all human life.
Suffering is normal. Indeed, it is ultimately a great gift; and if we are to understand marriage, and more broadly human life itself, this demands our careful attention.
We must never forget that God does not want suffering for its own sake. But suffering is at the center of our faith. Why?
In this video, Prof. John A. Cuddeback, Ph.D., expands on this question and offers insight on the redemptive power of suffering in marriage.

Aquinas, JPII, and Theology of the Body (Aquinas 101)

What Does St. Paul Say About Submission in Marriage? (Aquinas 101)
"Wives, be subject to your husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.” - Ephesians 5:22-23 (RSV-CE)
This idea of subjection or submission seems out-of-step with modern sensibilities, yet this teaching is part of Scripture, so how should we understand it?
Though this letter was originally addressed to the Ephesians, it invites modern readers to more deeply contemplate Christ's love for the Church, and in return, to bring the fruits of that contemplation into the married life.
In this Aquinas 101 episode, join Dr. And Prof. Peters as they dive into this passage written by St. Paul.

What Is an Annulment? (Aquinas 101)
What is an annulment? How is it different from divorce?
Marriage is a lifelong, exclusive union between a man and a woman for their mutual support and the bearing and raising of children. Unfortunately, marital failure can occur. But, why do marriages fail? How do we handle these heartbreaking situations?
One reason for marital failure is that the relationship may never have been an actual marriage. This situation may call for an annulment investigation. An annulment is a declaration that no marriage existed and that the man and woman are not husband and wife.
Join Fr. Dominic Langevin, O.P., as he explains the annulment process and how annulments differ from divorce.

Marriage as Mutual Service and Consecration in Christ (Aquinas 101)
In marriage, spouses lay down their lives as single persons and take them up again as married persons. They become one flesh, husband and wife, father and mother. Drawing from St. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, this Aquinas 101 episode shows how the sacrament of marriage images Christ’s covenant love for the Church and calls spouses to “be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ” (Eph 5:21).
Join Fr. Gregory Pine, O.P., as he unpacks the meaning of mutual subordination, and explains how St. Thomas Aquinas distinguishes the husband’s marital authority from the wife’s complementary obedience without denying their equal dignity. This video highlights how grace builds upon nature, giving the husband a role of loving leadership while the wife receives the gift of self‑offering through loving submission. Together, husband and wife become one flesh, mirroring the self‑sacrificial love of Christ for His Body, the Church.

Contemplata Ep 40 | God's Life In You | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
The Lord says ‘I am the vine, you are the branches.’ That is how the Lord wants us to think of the life of grace. Jesus is the head of the body, we are his members. There is a distinction, but there is one common life. You and I are branches on the vine of Jesus Christ.
You and I can say His life is mine, by the gift of His grace. Christ’s own life comes into us - we ingest His body and blood, and His life is something we receive, consume, and eat.

Every word of scripture is full of fire from the Holy Spirit. Every time you and I take a word of scripture to heart great things begin to happen in our souls. We begin to recover our sense of the presence of God in our lives and in the world around us. The communion of our Lord Jesus Chirst is a heart full of the Holy Spirit - it is friendship with him, and knowledge of His love for us. It is living in His relationship with the Father, and calling His Father as our Father.

Contemplata Ep 37 | God's Plan for You | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
Very often it doesn’t seem like God has a plan. It can feel like everything is going wrong. But we need to remember—God has a plan for the whole world, and for each of us personally.
St. Paul called God’s plan “the mystery.” Through Scripture, he was authorized by God to reveal this secret plan, hidden in God’s heart since the beginning of the world. What has been revealed is that God’s plan is Jesus Christ. In Him, we are drawn into the Mystical Body of Christ, guided by the Holy Spirit, and invited to live according to God’s eternal wisdom and love.

Contemplata Ep 36 | Your Way to Contemplation | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
In order for us to live the spiritual life and really grow in our awareness and knowledge and love of the Holy Trinity dwelling in our hearts, one of the best practices we can take up is the practice of Lectio Divina—the slow prayerful reading of Sacred Scripture. Sacred Scripture is God's present and active medium of communication with us. Reading, meditating, and praying with Scripture is the way to contemplation.

Contemplata Ep 35 | How to Become Aware of God | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
Each of us has an interior life—an inner room which Scripture often calls the heart, or the deep heart. And the Lord is telling us to go there to our inner room within each of us. He also tells us to close the door. That's what we've been talking about over the course of this podcast—we are called to become contemplative souls, to wake up to the mystery of the Trinity living and dwelling in our hearts by grace and grow in the sense of the presence of God.

Contemplata Ep 34 | How to Live in the Presence of God | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
How do we interact with the indwelling Trinity and live in this presence of God? In this episode, Fr. James tells us there are three things we need to do. First, we need to guard our hearts, and not be pulled away from God by distractions and sin. Second, we need to enter our hearts by finding times of silence and recollection. And, third, we need to simply talk and pray to the persons dwelling within us—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Contemplata Ep 33 | How God is Present to You | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
How do we understand what we call the indwelling Trinity? It is really distinct from the common modes of his presence - we should call it a special mode of the presence of God. It’s a way of being present that is person to person - heart to heart. The entire Holy Trinity makes Himself available to you and to me, for knowing, for loving, and for personal interaction intimately in the depths of our souls.

Contemplata Ep 31 | 5th Paraclete Promise | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
What's in the future? We are weak in our faith and we tend to conceive of the future as if God is not going to be there. In this episode of Contemplata, Fr. James explains that in the fifth paraclete promise assures us there is no future without God in it. In fact, the future belongs to the Father. We don’t know the future or what the circumstances or the events of the future will be, but we do know that whatever they are, God will be there for us. The Holy Spirit will lead us and guide us through all of it.

From the 2025 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, Dominican friars chant the Salve Regina, a centuries-old Marian antiphon sung each evening in the life of the Order of Preachers.
Through this prayer, Dominicans entrust the Church, the Order, and all intentions to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In this sacred chant, the friars lift their voices in praise and supplication, asking Mary, our gracious advocate, to lead all more surely to her Son.

God's Godly Love | Fr. Austin Litke O.P.
We are good only because he has first loved us. During the second conference of the 2025 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, Fr. Austin Litke, O.P. shares with us that God’s love does not wait for us to be good. God looks at the very worst of us and still chooses to love. That love is the beginning of every good thing, the love that called us into being and will not let us go.
Never Give Up | Fr. Andrew Hofer O.P.
At the 2025 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, Fr. Andrew Hofer, O.P. reminded us to never give up. Not on ourselves, our loved ones, or even our enemies. Our hope is not in our strength but in the work of God within us, made present in the sacrifice of the Mass. May we continue to hope in Our Lord through the intercession of Our Lady and the Rosary.
Newly Canonized Saint Bartolo Longo & the Rosary with Fr. Andrew, O.P.

2025 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage | Homily with Fr. Andrew Hofer, O.P.
At the 2025 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, Fr. Andrew Hofer, O.P., shared a powerful homily on the Rosary as our chain of hope—a prayer that lifts us, strengthens us, and unites us to God and one another.
Fr. Hofer reminded pilgrims that hope is more than wishing for good; it is a theological virtue infused by God, keeping us rooted in Him even in the midst of life’s struggles. He shared the inspiring story of Blessed Bartolo Longo, who overcame despair through the Rosary and devoted his life to spreading it.
“Pick up a rosary, and you lay hold of eternal life. Pray for yourselves, for your loved ones, and for your enemies. Never give up—never give up on God,” Fr. Hofer said.
Experience this homily and the day of pilgrimage for yourself, and let it inspire your prayer and strengthen your hope.
