Meet One of the First Saints of Pope Leo XIV - Pier Giorgio Frassati
Join EWTN’s Colm Flynn as he travels across Italy with a group of young men from the United States on a life-changing pilgrimage in honor of soon-to-be saint, Pier Giorgio Frassati.
Starting in Turin, the city where Frassati was born and raised, the pilgrims visit the places he prayed, served the poor, and lived out his deep Catholic faith — all while coming to understand how his joy, charity, and love for God continue to inspire young people today.
Led by Fr. Vincent Berhnard, O.P., the journey takes them to breathtaking locations like the Sanctuary of Oropa, where they climb the same mountain Frassati once hiked; Pollone, where they explore his family’s summer home; and Rome, where they pray at his tomb and conclude their pilgrimage with Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica.
Along the way, the pilgrims share how the experience is challenging them physically, inspiring them spiritually, and giving them a deeper sense of purpose — following Frassati’s motto to “live to the fullest” and “verso l’alto” (“to the heights”).
📍 Locations visited:
Turin – Birthplace of Pier Giorgio Frassati
Sanctuary of Oropa – Mountain pilgrimage
Pollone – Frassati family summer home
Rome – Tomb of Pier Giorgio & St. Peter’s Basilica

Dominic Verner, O.P., delivers a striking homily at the 2024 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, reminding us that we live in an age where the great mysteries of our faith are being forgotten. The Sorrowful Mysteries: Embracing Suffering with Jesus' Presence
The Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary invite us to confront suffering with a heart of contrition and a deep awareness of God's presence. As Fr. James Sullivan, O.P., reflects, suffering often reveals truths we otherwise overlook and brings us closer to God. Through the lens of the prodigal son’s journey, we come to realize that suffering isn’t an end but a means to something greater—leading us back to God’s embrace. Jesus does not take away suffering, but He fills it with His presence, offering comfort and clarity.

Our Lady and the Battle of Lepanto: Fr. Dominic Verner, O.P. at the 2024 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage
When the Christian world faced impossible odds, Pope St. Pius V called upon the faithful to take up the greatest weapon—prayer. The beaded line to Our Lady’s throne was pulled taut, and as the rosary resounded across Christendom, Heaven responded. Fr. Dominic Verner, O.P., recounts this decisive moment in history and the role Our Lady played in securing victory.

Fr. James Sullivan, O.P., on Pope Francis' Lenten Message
How often do we put off conversion, waiting for the “next Lent” or another perfect time to begin anew? Fr. James Sullivan, O.P., reminds us: This is the Lent to start fresh. Reflecting on Pope Francis’ Lenten message—“Let us journey together in hope”—Fr. Sullivan offers wisdom on suffering, perseverance, and the importance of walking this path in communion with others.
This is an excerpt from Fr. James' talk given as part of a Lenten retreat series at St. Dominic Church in Washington, D.C.
The Joyful Mysteries: A Prayer of Love
The Joyful Mysteries invite us into the heart of love—the love that begins with the tender innocence of the baby Jesus. As Fr. James Sullivan, O.P., reflects, love is the natural response when we encounter this child, and the mysteries of the Rosary draw us into that love. True love is not about asking for something but simply giving ourselves to God. The Joyful Mysteries teach us to love with sincerity and gratitude, without expectation of return.

Fr. Gregory Pine, O.P. - The Holy Rosary, Our Recourse on Earth
The Rosary has a way of ensnaring us. But what we come to discover is that in being ensnared, we are saved. Fr. Gregory Pine teaches us that the Rosary asks of us a kind of contemplative stance—because we're actually "heaven-dwellers" here on earth—we're all called to be contemplatives. And we can do this by contemplating the saving mysteries of Christ. The mysteries we pray in the Rosary accompany us in this life, ultimately saving us! At his annunciation, Christ is saving. At his visitation, Christ is saving. At his nativity, Christ is saving. At his presentation, Christ is saving. All the way down the line, Christ is saving. And we contemplate these mysteries in union with Mary, the one who enjoys the most intimate union with her Son. She helps us to see joy, to see light, to see sorrow, and to see glory.

Fr. James Brent, O.P. - In the Upper Room | Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage 2023
At our inaugural Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, Fr. James Brent, O.P., lifted hearts and minds to the Upper Room—while the historical moment of the Upper Room has passed, the mystery of the Upper Room remains. Mary is still in prayer. And she prays now in a better way, “in the light of glory, in the open vision of God.” And all the voices of heaven summon us from above, beckoning us. “Come, join us around the woman clothed with the sun. Pick up your Rosary. Eyes on Christ. Pray God to send the Spirit of Truth to lead us into all truth.”

St. Vincent Ferrer, O.P., Miracle Bell
St. Vincent Ferrer O.P., the miracle-working preacher, was known for his fiery sermons and countless wonders. St. Vincent was said to have worked over 800 miracles. In fact, during his canonization, the Church said no further evidence was needed.
Each time he performed a miracle, the crowds would ring a bell—a tradition we remember with a replica at St. Vincent Ferrer Roman Catholic Church in NYC. It stands as a sign that St. Vincent still intercedes, still works wonders, and still draws hearts to Christ.
St. Vincent Ferrer, pray for us.
Fr. Damian Day, O.P. on the Jubilee Year of Hope and Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati
The Church has declared this a Jubilee Year of Hope—and the saints are our guides. Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati is a beacon of hope for our time. Why? Good Christian Men, Rejoice!
Now Available for Purchase:
http://dominicanfriars.org/good-christian-men-rejoice
Visit: http://dominicanfriars.org
Nearly seven hundred years ago, a Dominican friar named Henry Suso had a vision of angels singing and dancing with joy about the birth of the Infant Jesus. The German preacher and mystic poet was soon swept up by the angelic song, and penned the Christmas hymn In Dulci Jubilo as a result. In the loose translation familiar to many today, we sing,
Good Christian men, rejoice
With heart and soul and voice;
Now ye need not fear the grave;
Jesus Christ was born to save!
Calls you one and calls you all
To gain his everlasting hall.
Christ was born to save!
Watch the video of the friars of the Dominican House of Studies as they continue this tradition of celebrating Christmas with a new album, Christ Was Born to Save, (digital and physical copies available for purchase) proceeds from which will support the Dominican students in Washington, D.C. The album features such timeless favorites as Away in a Manger, O Come, All Ye Faithful, and Silent Night, along with many other beautiful carols, chants, and choral works. All the music on this album flows from our prayerful contemplation of this great mystery: that God became man to save us from ourselves, and make us more like him.
Christ was born to save. This is what caused the angels to sing and dance in Blessed Henry’s vision, and is the true source of Christmas joy. God fulfilled his promise to restore creation to friendship with him through his Chosen People. Once again, God proved faithful to a mistrustful humanity, and confounded their doubts and expectations in the most extraordinary ways. The Lord of Hosts, robed in majesty, became a lowly child, bundled in swaddling clothes. And why? That, as he shares our humanity, we may share in his divinity, by becoming adopted sons and daughters of God.
Christ was born for this. The crib points to the Cross, and to the Resurrection still further. God has truly become man, and it means that we may share in his victory over sin and death. The sacred songs and chants of Christmas recorded by our schola in the resonant acoustic of Washington’s Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land recount this tremendous mystery. “Rejoice, rejoice!” we hear in the carol Gaudete, “with nature marveling, the world has been renewed by Christ who is reigning. The closed gate of Ezekiel is passed through.” Likewise, in the beloved Marian hymn Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming, we praise the “True man, yet very God, from sin and death he saves us, and lightens every load.” The heavenly choirs announce in Hark, the Herald Angels Sing, that Christ was “Born that man no more may die, born to raise the sons of earth, born to give them second birth!”
Christ was born to save. And so we cannot help but rejoice at “the dawn of redeeming grace,” (Silent Night), as we beseech this Child, “Born to die upon the Tree…to assoil [absolve] and save us all,” (Blessed Be That Maid Mary). “Be near me, Lord Jesus,” we pray in Away in a Manger, “And fit us for heaven, to live with thee there.” For “Though an infant now we view him, he shall fill his Father’s throne, gather all the nations to him; every knee shall then bow down,” (Angels from the Realms of Glory).
Christ was born for this: that we should trust once more in God’s faithfulness, and “gain his everlasting hall.” This Christmas, may God lead us all to “rejoice with heart and soul and voice” in so great a Savior.

5 Things People Get Wrong About Confirmation (Aquinas 101)
Is receiving the sacrament of Confirmation nothing more than graduating from religious education? Is it just the object of a mature choice to practice the Catholic faith, or a rite of passage?
No! Confirmation is much more than these common misconceptions of the sacrament. It's a sending forth, a commissioning, by which you are entering more richly into Christ himself, and into communion with all those who live in him.
In this latest episode of Aquinas 101, join Fr. Gregory Pine, O.P., a Catholic priest and Dominican friar from the Province of St. Joseph, as he debunks five common misunderstandings about Confirmation and explains what the Church really teaches about the sacrament of Confirmation.

The Beatitudes and the Fruits of the Holy Spirit (Aquinas 101)
What really happens when you're confirmed? In the sacrament of Confirmation, the Holy Spirit comes to complete the work God began in your baptism. The Holy Spirit also helps you to live out the beatitudes: a portrait of the very heart of Jesus Christ.
By inspiring us to practice the beatitudes, the Spirit reproduces the heart of Jesus in you and in me more and more. When the work of the Spirit comes to full realization in us, the results are called the fruits of the Spirit: a taste of the Lord's goodness you were made for.
In this Aquinas 101 video on the sacrament of Confirmation, join Fr. James Brent, O.P., a priest and Dominican friar of the Province of St. Joseph, as he explains how the Holy Spirit helps us to live out the Beatitudes and brings the likeness of Jesus to full stature in us—forming us into true, free, bold witnesses to Christ.

Why Does Confirmation Matter? The Gift of the Holy Spirit (Aquinas 101)
Why does Confirmation matter? In the Catholic Church, the sacrament of Confirmation is far more than a rite of passage — it’s a powerful encounter with the Gift of the Holy Spirit. Just as the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles at Pentecost, so too does He come to each of us in our own personal Pentecost through this sacrament.
In this Aquinas 101 video on Confirmation, Fr. James Brent, O.P., a priest and Dominican friar of the Province of St. Joseph, explains the Catholic theology behind Confirmation according to St. Thomas Aquinas and how it strengthens the grace of baptism, forming us into bold witnesses of Christ. Through this sacrament, we receive not just the Gift of the Holy Spirit, but the power to live out the fruits of the Spirit and the beatitudes — becoming more like Christ.

Do We Receive the Same Eucharist the Apostles Did at the Last Supper? #AskAFriar (Aquinas 101)
On Holy Thursday, we commemorated the Last Supper: when Jesus Christ established the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist and the institution of the priesthood. But, do Catholics today receive exactly the same Eucharist that the Apostles did at the Last Supper, now that Jesus is risen and has a glorified body? Namely, was the body of Christ present in the Eucharist at the Last Supper the body of Jesus as He was at the Last Supper, or as He would be at the Resurrection? Is the substance of Christ’s body in the Eucharist the same before and after the Resurrection? Join Fr. Ambrose Little, O.P., a Catholic priest and Dominican friar from the Province of St. Joseph, as he meditates on these mysteries in a special Easter episode of Aquinas 101: Big Questions, Little Answers!

The Powerful Grace of Confirmation (Aquinas 101)
The Catholic sacrament of Confirmation gives us grace and a share in the mystery of Pentecost. Through the sacrament of Confirmation, the same Holy Spirit who has comforted and guided the Catholic Church throughout the centuries is given to each of us in a personal way. In this sacrament, we receive the very same gift of the Holy Spirit which made the Apostles ready to preach Christ to the ends of the earth at Pentecost. In this Aquinas 101 video, join Fr. Innocent Smith, O.P., a Catholic priest and Dominican friar from the province of St. Joseph, as he explains the powerful gift of grace Catholics receive in the sacrament of Confirmation, according to St. Thomas Aquinas.

Contemplata
Contemplata Ep 36 | Your Way to Contemplation | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
In order for us to live the spiritual life and really grow in our awareness and knowledge and love of the Holy Trinity dwelling in our hearts, one of the best practices we can take up is the practice of Lectio Divina—the slow prayerful reading of Sacred Scripture. Sacred Scripture is God's present and active medium of communication with us. Reading, meditating, and praying with Scripture is the way to contemplation.

Contemplata Ep 35 | How to Become Aware of God | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
Each of us has an interior life—an inner room which Scripture often calls the heart, or the deep heart. And the Lord is telling us to go there to our inner room within each of us. He also tells us to close the door. That's what we've been talking about over the course of this podcast—we are called to become contemplative souls, to wake up to the mystery of the Trinity living and dwelling in our hearts by grace and grow in the sense of the presence of God.

Contemplata Ep 34 | How to Live in the Presence of God | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
How do we interact with the indwelling Trinity and live in this presence of God? In this episode, Fr. James tells us there are three things we need to do. First, we need to guard our hearts, and not be pulled away from God by distractions and sin. Second, we need to enter our hearts by finding times of silence and recollection. And, third, we need to simply talk and pray to the persons dwelling within us—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Contemplata Ep 33 | How God is Present to You | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
How do we understand what we call the indwelling Trinity? It is really distinct from the common modes of his presence - we should call it a special mode of the presence of God. It’s a way of being present that is person to person - heart to heart. The entire Holy Trinity makes Himself available to you and to me, for knowing, for loving, and for personal interaction intimately in the depths of our souls.

Contemplata Ep 32 | The Indwelling Trinity | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
Where does God live? When we are baptized, and when we remain in a state of grace, the Holy Trinity, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, lives within our souls. We become a house of God! We have contact with the Holy Trinity who dwells within us, and we can respond with gratitude and love for the great gift that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit give us in this mystery of our faith. Contemplata Ep 31 | 5th Paraclete Promise | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
What's in the future? We are weak in our faith and we tend to conceive of the future as if God is not going to be there. In this episode of Contemplata, Fr. James explains that in the fifth paraclete promise assures us there is no future without God in it. In fact, the future belongs to the Father. We don’t know the future or what the circumstances or the events of the future will be, but we do know that whatever they are, God will be there for us. The Holy Spirit will lead us and guide us through all of it.

Contemplata Ep 30 | 4th Paraclete Promise | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
The Lord promises to send the Holy Spirit to penetrate the hearts and minds of people who are listening to the proclamation of the gospel. And he promises that when the Spirit comes, he will convince them of sin and of righteousness and of judgment—so the fourth paraclete promise could be called the promise of convincing concerning sin. But what does this mean, to convince the world of sin? In a word, it means that the Spirit will illuminate a person's conscience to realize he or she has sinned.

Contemplata Ep 29 | 3rd Paraclete Promise | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
Why would we expect anyone today to come to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, to come to believe in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, and to come to practice the Catholic faith? The reason we expect that is because in the third Paraclete Promise the Lord promised to send us the Spirit of Truth to bear witness along with us to these truths of the faith.

Contemplata Ep 27 | 1st Paraclete Promise | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
At the Last Supper, the Lord promised to send his Spirit to dwell in each of us. And when you and I were baptized, we received the Holy Spirit in a whole new way—we came to have the very person of the Holy Spirit himself living and dwelling in the depths of our souls. Contemplata Ep 26 | What are the 5 Paraclete Promises? | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
What does it take to be confident as we pray? We need something solid to build our confidence upon. In this episode, Fr. James introduces us to what scripture scholars call paraclete promises, which are found throughout scripture and are a great reason to be confident in our prayer before God. Fr. James will point to many of these promises that God has made which can be found in scripture and, over the next five episodes, he will look specifically at the 5 paraclete promises the Lord promised to send in the Upper Room.

Contemplata Ep 25 | Why Pray the Rosary? | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
Petitionary prayer, meditation, contemplation, the Our Father, and the Hail Mary, the Glory Be. The Rosary has it all. If we stay with it and practice praying the Rosary, the different elements of it come together and gradually we realize that this prayer has the power to dispose our hearts, and the eyes of our hearts can then begin to look at the Lord with more love and affection, and the truth of what he has done for us in each one of the mysteries of his life can really leap forth for us.

Contemplata Ep 24 | How God Purifies You | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
God is a refiner's fire, and he says through the mouth of the prophet Zechariah, “I will refine them as silver is refined.” What does that mean? You and I can ask for God to plunge us into the fire, to purify us, to separate out the lead from the silver within us. And he will do it because God is good and he has these graces of purification for us. The process of purification is going to be different for each one of us, depending upon the different graces of purification God gives us.

Contemplata Ep 23 | The Name of Jesus | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
There’s one prayer in particular that’s the best prayer and it is the name of Jesus. When we call upon the name of Jesus with faith, we should expect to receive his grace. The name of Jesus will work in our hearts and will do in our hearts, in a certain way, everything that Jesus himself does in the Gospels.

“O God, come to my assistance, O Lord make haste to help me.” This prayer was taught to John Cassian and his friend Germanus by one of the desert monks, Abba Isaac, who told them if they just pray this prayer over and over again, their hearts will be set on fire. This prayer is a prayer you can pray in all circumstances.

Contemplata Ep 21 | A Busy Heart in Prayer | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
In this episode, Fr. James Brent, O.P., recounts an example of how javelin prayers can be helpful in the spiritual life as he tells us about someone he knew who was a high-powered lawyer in New York. She barely had any time for extended daily prayer but could see the people around her were looking very lost and empty. She saw in them a real desire for God and she wanted to find a way to slake their thirst somehow. By praying these short, frequent “javelin” prayers, she led a life of serious prayer in the midst of a very busy life in New York City. Her life and her heart became a point of entry for God to enter into this world.

Dominican Rosary Videos
The Project of Being Human Is Beyond Us | Fr. James Sullivan, O.P.
At the 2024 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, Fr. James Sullivan, O.P., preached on the limits of human strength. We often believe we have life figured out—but the struggle with sin reveals otherwise. On our own, we cannot reach our true potential or find lasting happiness.
The good news: God’s grace is the answer. In Christ, we discover the fullness of what it means to be human, not by our own power but through divine love that triumphs over sin.
We Need God’s Grace | Fr. James Sullivan, O.P.
At the 2024 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, Fr. James Sullivan, O.P., preached on the struggle St. Paul describes: “The good that I want to do, I do not do… but the evil I do not want is what I do.”
Our culture tells us to “be your best self,” but can we ever fulfill that promise apart from God? Fr. James reflects on why we are not enough on our own—and why the Annunciation is God’s answer. In giving us His Son and His Mother, the Lord shows that the fullness of the human person is forged only by grace.

Love One Another as I Have Loved You | Fr. James Sullivan, O.P.
At the 2024 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, Fr. James Sullivan, O.P., preached on the command of Christ at the Last Supper: “Love one another as I have loved you.” Drawing on St. Louis de Montfort, he reflects on how Mary, the Mother of Fair Love, leads us beyond fear into the freedom of God’s children.
Mary does not diminish our obligations—she inflames them with love, opening our hearts to live as true sons and daughters of the Father. Through her intercession, we discover a love that does not condemn but frees.

The Glorious Mysteries: A Prayer of Thanksgiving
The Glorious Mysteries reveal what is still to come—the joy of heaven, the fulfillment of God’s promises, and the final word of gratitude when we see Him face to face. In this reflection, Fr. James Sullivan, O.P., reminds us that our response to God should not be criticism but thanksgiving. Like St. Louis de Montfort teaches, true devotion honors Mary, contemplates her virtues, and thanks God for all He has done through her.

The Annunciation: A Scenic View on the Road to God
The Rosary is the scenic route on our journey to God, and the Annunciation is a breathtaking overlook along the way. In this reflection, Fr. James Sullivan, O.P., invites us to pause and take in the beauty of this mystery—the moment when salvation history unfolds before our eyes. Like a scenic view on a long road trip, the Annunciation reminds us to stop, reflect, and marvel at God’s plan.
