Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress, O.P., reflects on one of the most striking moments in the life of St. Thomas Aquinas: when the Lord offers him a reward, and Thomas responds with a single desire—nothing but the Lord himself.
Through the intercession of St. Thomas Aquinas, Dominican friar and Doctor of the Church, we are invited to examine our own hearts and ask that our desires may be purified, reordered, and directed toward God alone. Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress, O.P., invites you to save the date for the 2026 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, taking place on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.
Each year, pilgrims from across the country gather to pray the Rosary, celebrate the Eucharist, and entrust their intentions to Our Lady—asking to be led more deeply to Christ through her intercession.
This pilgrimage begins not only in September, but in prayer. Preparation for the 2026 pilgrimage includes a nine-month novena, beginning January 31 and prayed on the last Saturday of each month until the pilgrimage.

On October 19th, Blessed Bartolo Longo, the lay Dominican who dedicated his life to spreading the Rosary at Pompei, was canonized—a true witness to the power of conversion and devotion.

On August 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, our brothers made their First Profession of Vows at St. Gertrude Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. By professing obedience, poverty, and chastity, they enter more deeply into the life of St. Dominic and the mission of the Order of Preachers.
As Fr. Raymond La Grange, O.P., reminds us: “By professing obedience to St. Dominic, we place ourselves under his direction. We fulfill our part of the obedience by continuing, centuries later, to carry out the mission which he inaugurated.”
Following their profession, these newly professed friars begin their academic studies at the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception (PFIC) at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. Their time in study—“the wood of the desk is the wood of the cross”—is a sacrifice that prepares them for a lifetime of preaching rooted in the Dominican intellectual tradition.

It All Begins At Baptism
God’s ways are mysterious and wonderful. As an infant, Br. Charles Rooney, O.P., was baptized at St. Vincent Ferrer Church in New York. This past summer, he returned there as a Dominican Friar and deacon, now baptizing others. Brother Charles has left all things behind to live out his baptismal promises as a Dominican. We thank God for calling Br. Charles to religious life and are thankful to Br. Charles, and his fellow friars, for answering that call. #vocations #priesthood
Entering Into Joy
On August 15, 2023, on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 12 Dominican friars professed simple, or first, vows at St. Gertrude’s parish in Cincinnati, OH. These first vows follow a year of novitiate, then, having entered into vows, the friars embark on a life of intellectual and spiritual formation at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C.

The Pearl of Great Price
The treasure we’re looking for in this life is God. We may try to find all sorts of counterfeit gods—money, power, pleasure—but all of these will fall short of what we desire. As he blessed Manhattan’s first ever perpetual adoration chapel, Cardinal Timothy Dolan tells us that what we’re ultimately seeking is that pearl of great price. And that pearl can be found in the Eucharist, every day of the week, every hour of the day, at the Divine Mercy Adoration Chapel at our Dominican parish of St. Joseph’s in Greenwich Village. #perpetualadoration
Nine New Dominican Priests
Nine Dominican Friars were ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Earl Fernandes on Saturday, May 20, 2023. In his homily, Bishop Fernandes told the newly ordained priests “to reflect on the stream of blessings that flow from the hands of priests—your hands. Each of you, called to bless, are a blessing to your Order and to the whole Church.” #Priesthood

Jesus’ heart is still moved by the crowds. He sees us in the realities of our lives, in our sufferings…and he’s moved with compassion, so much so that he wants to give himself to us. In the Eucharist, Jesus is as present to us in the streets of our modern-day cities as he was when he traversed Galilee and Jerusalem two thousand years ago. Marriage as Mutual Service and Consecration in Christ (Aquinas 101)
In marriage, spouses lay down their lives as single persons and take them up again as married persons. They become one flesh, husband and wife, father and mother. The Lord says ‘I am the vine, you are the branches.’ That is how the Lord wants us to think of the life of grace. Jesus is the head of the body, we are his members. There is a distinction, but there is one common life. You and I are branches on the vine of Jesus Christ.
You and I can say His life is mine, by the gift of His grace. Christ’s own life comes into us - we ingest His body and blood, and His life is something we receive, consume, and eat.

Every word of scripture is full of fire from the Holy Spirit. Every time you and I take a word of scripture to heart great things begin to happen in our souls. We begin to recover our sense of the presence of God in our lives and in the world around us. The communion of our Lord Jesus Chirst is a heart full of the Holy Spirit - it is friendship with him, and knowledge of His love for us. It is living in His relationship with the Father, and calling His Father as our Father.

The great plan of God is to unite human beings everywhere with His eternal Son, Jesus Chirst, by the power of the Holy Spirit. When you and I have been loved in that special kind of way we come alive. We are regenerated, refashioned, and recreated in the depths of our souls. And we begin to live the supernatural life of grace.

Contemplata Ep 37 | God's Plan for You | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
Very often it doesn’t seem like God has a plan. It can feel like everything is going wrong. But we need to remember—God has a plan for the whole world, and for each of us personally.
St. Paul called God’s plan “the mystery.” Through Scripture, he was authorized by God to reveal this secret plan, hidden in God’s heart since the beginning of the world. What has been revealed is that God’s plan is Jesus Christ. In Him, we are drawn into the Mystical Body of Christ, guided by the Holy Spirit, and invited to live according to God’s eternal wisdom and love.

In order for us to live the spiritual life and really grow in our awareness and knowledge and love of the Holy Trinity dwelling in our hearts, one of the best practices we can take up is the practice of Lectio Divina—the slow prayerful reading of Sacred Scripture. Sacred Scripture is God's present and active medium of communication with us. Reading, meditating, and praying with Scripture is the way to contemplation.

Contemplata Ep 34 | How to Live in the Presence of God | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
How do we interact with the indwelling Trinity and live in this presence of God? In this episode, Fr. James tells us there are three things we need to do. First, we need to guard our hearts, and not be pulled away from God by distractions and sin. Second, we need to enter our hearts by finding times of silence and recollection. And, third, we need to simply talk and pray to the persons dwelling within us—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

At the 2025 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, Fr. Joseph-Anthony, O.P., invited pilgrims to enroll and share in the prayers, graces, and spiritual life of the Dominican Order.
Enrollment is simple: pray fifteen decades of the Rosary each week and be united to a centuries-old Dominican family of prayer. Wherever you are, your Rosary becomes part of a living pilgrimage that never ceases.

Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage Novena | January 2026 | Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress, O.P.
This video begins the first month of the nine-month novena in preparation for the Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, a Catholic pilgrimage centered on prayer, contemplation, and devotion to the Rosary.
Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress, O.P., offers a reflection on why a nine-month novena is a fitting way to prepare for the Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage. Drawing on the Church’s tradition of sustained prayer before great works, he invites us into a contemplative rhythm of prayer as we prepare our hearts for the graces of the Pilgrimage.
In this video, Fr. Joseph-Anthony also leads the novena prayer, inviting viewers to pray together on the Saturdays of each month as we journey toward the Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage.

Save the Date for the Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage 2026
Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress, O.P., invites you to save the date for the 2026 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, taking place on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.
Each year, pilgrims from across the country gather to pray the Rosary, celebrate the Eucharist, and entrust their intentions to Our Lady—asking to be led more deeply to Christ through her intercession.
This pilgrimage begins not only in September, but in prayer. Preparation for the 2026 pilgrimage includes a nine-month novena, beginning January 31 and prayed on the last Saturday of each month until the pilgrimage.
