Can You Still Trust the Catholic Church?
Father Thomas Joseph White is a Dominican priest, theologian, and rector of the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (the Angelicum) in Rome. One of the leading Catholic theologians of his generation, his work focuses on metaphysics, Christology, ecclesiology, Thomism, and the relationship between faith and reason. He is the author of numerous books, including The Light of Christ: An Introduction to Catholicism.
In this conversation, he explores the theological meaning of the Vatican, the papacy, and the Catholic Church's claim to teach with authority in matters of faith and morals. He discusses the role of the Pope, the nature of Catholic doctrine, the relationship between conscience and truth, and how Catholics understand the development and transmission of Christian teaching through history.
Father White also reflects on his own conversion to Catholicism, the intellectual foundations of religious belief, and why he believes Christianity continues to attract young people in an increasingly secular age. The discussion addresses skepticism, scientific materialism, the clergy abuse crisis, the relationship between reason and revelation, and the enduring appeal of Catholicism as a comprehensive vision of reality.

Waiting in Hope: Christ in the Tomb | Fr. Jonah Teller, O.P.
In moments of silence, waiting, and uncertainty, we are drawn into the mystery of Christ who enters even into death.
In this reflection, Fr. Jonah Teller, O.P. invites us to contemplate Christ in the tomb and the hope that sustains us in every season of darkness and waiting. There is no suffering, silence, or depth of human experience that Christ has not entered and redeemed.
This meditation draws us into the heart of the Paschal Mystery, where apparent absence becomes a place of trust in God’s promise and presence.
Wherever you find yourself today, in waiting, struggle, or quiet, remain close to Christ and keep watch in hope.

Dominican Friars Reflect on Life at the March for Life 2026 | Friars for Life
The Dominican Friars proclaim the sacred dignity of every human life. At the March for Life in Washington, DC, they reflect on the hope, joy, and beauty of the Gospel of Life.
Every day, the Dominicans are forming new generations of friars to stand for life, providing sacramental and pastoral care to women in crisis pregnancies, and leading public witness, prayer, and education to promote a culture of life. Wherever human dignity is threatened, the friars preach Christ with clarity, charity, and conviction.
You can help sustain this mission. By supporting Friars for Life, your generosity forms young friars, strengthens preaching across the country, and expands evangelization through media and campus ministry. Thanks to a generous matching gift campaign, every donation made by May 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar — doubling your impact for mothers, children, and the Gospel of Life.

St. Thomas Aquinas: “Nothing But You, O Lord” | A Reflection on Desire with Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress
This Catholic reflection for the feast of St. Thomas Aquinas explores the saint’s famous prayer, “Nothing but You, O Lord,” and invites us to ask God to purify and reorder our desires.
Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress, O.P., reflects on one of the most striking moments in the life of St. Thomas Aquinas: when the Lord offers him a reward, and Thomas responds with a single desire—nothing but the Lord himself.
Through the intercession of St. Thomas Aquinas, Dominican friar and Doctor of the Church, we are invited to examine our own hearts and ask that our desires may be purified, reordered, and directed toward God alone. St. Thomas teaches us that the deepest desire of the human heart is not success, knowledge, or recognition, but God himself.
Please know that we are praying for you as friars, and we ask you to pray for us on this feast day of our brother, St. Thomas Aquinas.

Why Catholics Carry God Through the City | O Come, All Ye Faithful
Hidden under the humble sign of bread, Jesus moves through the world he made. Many will never cross the threshold of a church—but in a Eucharistic procession, God comes to them, carrying his presence into the streets he loves and the world he saves.
This Eucharistic procession in New York City offers a rare witness to Christ, truly present in the Eucharist, going out to meet the world he made, the world he loves, and the world he saves. The procession is accompanied by the voices of the Schola Cantorum of the Dominican House of Studies, singing O Come, All Ye Faithful.
Whether you are Catholic or simply curious about the faith, this video provides a moving glimpse into the beauty of a Catholic Eucharistic procession, showing how God’s presence can touch every corner of the city.

As the year comes to a close, Fr. John Paul Kern, O.P. offers a message of gratitude to all who support the Dominican Friars with their prayers and generosity.
Over the past year, God has brought forth much fruit through the preaching and ministry of the friars. Alongside these moments, friars continue their daily service in parishes, classrooms, hospitals, and campus ministries.
As we look ahead to 2025, the Dominican Friars entrust their work to God and ask for your continued prayers, that he may bring to completion the good work he has begun.

Andrew Hofer, O.P., reflects on Bartolo’s journey: a man once lost in darkness, even practicing Satanism, who experienced a dramatic conversion and devoted his life to Our Lady of the Rosary. Fr. Hofer emphasizes that Bartolo’s life is a reminder that the Rosary is a “chain of hope,” lifting hearts to Heaven and inspiring all who pray it.

How Theology Answers the Questions of Philosophy w/ Fr. James Brent, O.P. | Ep. 159
How can Catholics engage with the mystery of God through reason and faith?
Dr. Michael Dauphinais sits down with Fr. James Brent, O.P., assistant professor of philosophy at the Dominican House of Studies. They explore how philosophy in the perennial tradition raises profound questions about God’s existence, His plan, the problem of evil, the human soul, life after death, and the pursuit of ultimate happiness, questions that are finally only answered by faith in God's revelation in Jesus Christ. They also discuss Fr. Brent's recent book The Father’s House: Discovering Our Home in the Trinity.

Dominican Friars Make First Profession of Vows | August 15, 2025
On August 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, our brothers made their First Profession of Vows at St. Gertrude Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. By professing obedience, poverty, and chastity, they enter more deeply into the life of St. Dominic and the mission of the Order of Preachers.
As Fr. Raymond La Grange, O.P., reminds us: “By professing obedience to St. Dominic, we place ourselves under his direction. We fulfill our part of the obedience by continuing, centuries later, to carry out the mission which he inaugurated.”
Following their profession, these newly professed friars begin their academic studies at the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception (PFIC) at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. Their time in study—“the wood of the desk is the wood of the cross”—is a sacrifice that prepares them for a lifetime of preaching rooted in the Dominican intellectual tradition.
Please keep our brothers in your prayers as they begin this next stage of their journey in religious life.

Dominican Presence: Building up the Church
Bishop Earl Fernandes, bishop of Columbus, points to the importance of the Dominican friars in the life of the Church in his diocese, past and present.
It All Begins At Baptism
God’s ways are mysterious and wonderful. As an infant, Br. Charles Rooney, O.P., was baptized at St. Vincent Ferrer Church in New York. This past summer, he returned there as a Dominican Friar and deacon, now baptizing others. Brother Charles has left all things behind to live out his baptismal promises as a Dominican. We thank God for calling Br. Charles to religious life and are thankful to Br. Charles, and his fellow friars, for answering that call. #vocations #priesthood
Entering Into Joy
On August 15, 2023, on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 12 Dominican friars professed simple, or first, vows at St. Gertrude’s parish in Cincinnati, OH. These first vows follow a year of novitiate, then, having entered into vows, the friars embark on a life of intellectual and spiritual formation at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C.
Please pray for these 12 men as they enter more deeply into Dominican life!
The Pearl of Great Price
The treasure we’re looking for in this life is God. We may try to find all sorts of counterfeit gods—money, power, pleasure—but all of these will fall short of what we desire. As he blessed Manhattan’s first ever perpetual adoration chapel, Cardinal Timothy Dolan tells us that what we’re ultimately seeking is that pearl of great price. And that pearl can be found in the Eucharist, every day of the week, every hour of the day, at the Divine Mercy Adoration Chapel at our Dominican parish of St. Joseph’s in Greenwich Village. #perpetualadoration
Nine New Dominican Priests
Nine Dominican Friars were ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Earl Fernandes on Saturday, May 20, 2023. In his homily, Bishop Fernandes told the newly ordained priests “to reflect on the stream of blessings that flow from the hands of priests—your hands. Each of you, called to bless, are a blessing to your Order and to the whole Church.” #Priesthood
Corpus Christi in New York City
“At the sight of the crowds, Jesus’ heart was moved with pity for them.”
Matthew 9:36
Jesus’ heart is still moved by the crowds. He sees us in the realities of our lives, in our sufferings…and he’s moved with compassion, so much so that he wants to give himself to us. In the Eucharist, Jesus is as present to us in the streets of our modern-day cities as he was when he traversed Galilee and Jerusalem two thousand years ago. Follow him where he leads you. #RealPresence

Why Every Part of the Mass Matters
Why Every Part of the Mass Matters | Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress & Fr. Gregory Pine
The Catholic Mass is far more than just a weekly obligation—it is the Church's highest act of worship and our deepest encounter with Jesus Christ. Yet many Catholics know the responses and rituals without fully understanding why the liturgy unfolds the way it does.
In this episode of Godsplaining, Fr. Joseph-Anthony and Fr. Gregory offer a guided tour through the Mass, explaining how each part prepares us for communion with Christ. Beginning with the Introductory Rites, they show how the liturgy gradually moves us from ordinary life into sacred worship through prayer, Scripture, and finally sacrifice.
Along the way, they unpack the meaning of our postures, the purpose of the Liturgy of the Word, the significance of the Offertory, and the beauty of the Eucharistic Prayer. Drawing from St. Thomas Aquinas, Roman Catholic liturgical tradition, and their own pastoral experience, they explain how every prayer and gesture helps believers enter more deeply into the mystery of Christ's sacrifice. As Fr. Joseph-Anthony points out during the episode "lex orandi, lex credendi; the law of prayer, is the law of belief."
Whether you've attended Mass your entire life or are just beginning to explore the Catholic faith, this conversation will help you see the liturgy with fresh eyes and participate with greater devotion.

Can Beauty Really Lead You to God?
Can Beauty Really Lead You to God? | Fr. Patrick Briscoe & Fr. Bonaventure Chapman
Why does beauty stop us in our tracks? Why do breathtaking cathedrals, sacred music, masterpieces, and even a sunset seem to point beyond themselves?
In this episode of Godsplaining, Fr. Patrick and Fr. Bonaventure explore the profound relationship between beauty and God. Drawing from Dostoevsky, Aristotle, St. Thomas Aquinas, Hans Urs von Balthasar, and their own experiences of art and prayer, they ask whether beauty offers a unique witness to the truth of Christianity.
You need not be an artist or a philosopher to enjoy this conversation! Tune in to hear the friars unpack why beauty continues to captivate us and why it may be one of the clearest signs pointing toward the Divine.

Does the Bible Really Say Wives Must Submit?
Unpacking Headship and Subordination in Marriage | Fr. Gregory Pine and Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress
What does the Bible really say about headship and submission in marriage?
Few passages generate more debate than Ephesians 5. Does St. Paul teach male domination—or something entirely different? In the latest episode of Godsplaining, Fr. Gregory and Fr. Joseph-Anthony unpack one of Scripture's most misunderstood texts, exploring what the Church teaches regarding headship, mutual submission, sacrifice, and love.
Rather than a struggle for power, they argue that Christian marriage is rooted in Christ's self-giving love for the Church. Headship is not about control, but about sacrificial service. Likewise, mutual submission is not about inequality, but about each spouse giving themselves fully for the good of the other.
Whether you've wrestled with this passage for years or are hearing it for the first time, this conversation offers a thoughtful Catholic perspective grounded in Scripture and the Church's tradition. Still have questions? Let us know in the comments.

Can a Good Person Tell a Lie?
Can a Good Person Tell a Lie? | Fr. Gregory Pine & Fr. Bonaventure Chapman
Most people instinctively say that lying is wrong—until they're presented with an extreme case. What if a murderer came to your door? What if hiding the truth could protect an innocent person?
In this episode of Godsplaining, Fr. Gregory and Fr. Bonaventure explore traditional Christian teaching on lying, drawing from St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, and even Immanuel Kant. They discuss why truthfulness is so central to the moral life, whether every lie is sinful, and how Catholics should think about difficult situations where telling the truth seems costly.
The conversation goes beyond rules and exceptions to ask a deeper question: Do you want to be the kind of person who tells the truth?

Atonement Explained: Where Catholics and Protestants Differ
Atonement Explained: Where Catholics and Protestants Differ | Fr. Gregory Pine & Fr. Bonaventure Chapman
"Jesus died for our sins." As Christians we know this to be true, but do we understand what this really means? There are many explanations that focus on punishment, debt, or substitution. But how does the Catholic Church understand Christ's sacrifice on the Cross?
Join Fr. Gregory and Fr. Bonaventure on this episode of Godsplaining as they explore the Catholic understanding of atonement, the mystery of salvation, and why Catholics speak of participation in the divine life. Along the way, they'll also discuss the famous Protestant theory of penal substitution, St. Thomas Aquinas' approach to redemption, and how Christ's suffering reveals the deepest truth about God's love.

Do Christians and Muslims Worship the Same God?
Do Christians and Muslims Worship the Same God? | Fr. Gregory Pine and Fr. Patrick Briscoe
In this episode, Fr. Gregory Pine and Fr. Patrick Briscoe tackle a question that often sparks confusion and controversy: Do Christians and Muslims worship the same God?
They begin by grounding the discussion in both contemporary debates and historical Church teaching, showing that this is not a new question but one the Church has addressed for centuries. Drawing from sources like St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Robert Bellarmine, and the Second Vatican Council, they explain that the Catholic tradition consistently affirms that Muslims and Christians do, in fact, worship the one true God.
The friars clarify that while Christians and Muslims refer to the same God in reality (the one Creator), they do not share the same understanding of God. Watch the full episode to learn more.

Why Does Søren Kierkegaard Still Matter?
What Did Søren Kierkegaard Get Right? | Fr. Bonaventure Chapman and Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress
This episode of Godsplaining dives into the thought of Søren Kierkegaard—one of the most influential Christian philosophers of the modern era and often called the “father of existentialism.”
Fr. Bonaventure and Fr. Joseph-Anthony explore how Kierkegaard pushed back against overly rational approaches to Christianity, especially those influenced by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (checkout our episode on Hegel, if you haven't already). While Hegel emphasized reason as the key to understanding reality and faith, Kierkegaard insisted that faith cannot be reduced to logic alone.
The episode unpacks Kierkegaard’s famous framework of the three stages of life:
The Aesthetic Stage: a life driven by pleasure, beauty, and experience
The Ethical Stage: a life grounded in moral duty and universal truths
The Religious Stage: a life of radical faith, where one responds personally to God
Through works like Either/Or and Fear and Trembling, Kierkegaard shows that true faith goes beyond rules and reason. Using the story of Abraham, he introduces the idea of a “teleological suspension of the ethical”—that God’s call can transcend human logic, requiring trust even when we don’t fully understand.

Aquinas 101
Finding "The One" (Aquinas 101)
Many young Catholics wonder about their vocation, and it can be a challenge to know how to properly discern it and where to begin.
Oftentimes, God reveals our vocations slowly over time through the opportunities that arise in our lives, the passions and desires we find in our hearts, and the people the Lord puts in our path.
In this episode of Aquinas 101, the Peters recount their story and share practical tips on dating and the discernment of marriage.

How Can I Prepare for Life with My Future Spouse? (Aquinas 101)
One may imagine a household simply as the place to form children, but a household can only rightly form the next generation if it is also the home of a vibrant adult life.
How then should a young adult, or anyone preparing for marriage, think about and get ready for life in a household?
In this Aquinas 101 episode, Prof. John A. Cuddeback, Ph.D., discusses life in the home and shares practical tips on how one can better prepare for this life before entering into marriage.

How Does Marriage Sanctify Spouses? (Aquinas 101)
St. Thomas Aquinas wrote that every sacrament is a “sign of a holy thing so far as it makes men holy.” As a sacrament, matrimony has a special, supernatural power to make us holy.
St. Benedict calls the monastery the workshop or school for monks to grow in holiness; for the married, home is that workshop, that school.
In this Aquinas 101 episode, Prof. John A. Cuddeback, Ph.D., examines marriage as a school of virtue.

Suffering in Marriage (Aquinas 101)
Anyone who has been married for any length of time knows that suffering is a major feature of married life, just as it is a major feature of all human life.
Suffering is normal. Indeed, it is ultimately a great gift; and if we are to understand marriage, and more broadly human life itself, this demands our careful attention.
We must never forget that God does not want suffering for its own sake. But suffering is at the center of our faith. Why?
In this video, Prof. John A. Cuddeback, Ph.D., expands on this question and offers insight on the redemptive power of suffering in marriage.

What Does St. Paul Say About Submission in Marriage? (Aquinas 101)
"Wives, be subject to your husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.” - Ephesians 5:22-23 (RSV-CE)
This idea of subjection or submission seems out-of-step with modern sensibilities, yet this teaching is part of Scripture, so how should we understand it?
Though this letter was originally addressed to the Ephesians, it invites modern readers to more deeply contemplate Christ's love for the Church, and in return, to bring the fruits of that contemplation into the married life.
In this Aquinas 101 episode, join Dr. And Prof. Peters as they dive into this passage written by St. Paul.

What Is an Annulment? (Aquinas 101)
What is an annulment? How is it different from divorce?
Marriage is a lifelong, exclusive union between a man and a woman for their mutual support and the bearing and raising of children. Unfortunately, marital failure can occur. But, why do marriages fail? How do we handle these heartbreaking situations?
One reason for marital failure is that the relationship may never have been an actual marriage. This situation may call for an annulment investigation. An annulment is a declaration that no marriage existed and that the man and woman are not husband and wife.
Join Fr. Dominic Langevin, O.P., as he explains the annulment process and how annulments differ from divorce.

Marriage as Mutual Service and Consecration in Christ (Aquinas 101)
In marriage, spouses lay down their lives as single persons and take them up again as married persons. They become one flesh, husband and wife, father and mother. Drawing from St. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, this Aquinas 101 episode shows how the sacrament of marriage images Christ’s covenant love for the Church and calls spouses to “be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ” (Eph 5:21).
Join Fr. Gregory Pine, O.P., as he unpacks the meaning of mutual subordination, and explains how St. Thomas Aquinas distinguishes the husband’s marital authority from the wife’s complementary obedience without denying their equal dignity. This video highlights how grace builds upon nature, giving the husband a role of loving leadership while the wife receives the gift of self‑offering through loving submission. Together, husband and wife become one flesh, mirroring the self‑sacrificial love of Christ for His Body, the Church.

A Word of Love | Contemplata Ep 53 | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
In Episode 53 of Contemplata, A Word of Love, we reflect on the truth at the heart of the Gospel: God loves us with an everlasting love. Drawing from Sacred Scripture, this meditation invites listeners to receive the Word of God not merely as information, but as nourishment for the soul.
As fear, anxiety, and distraction fill our daily lives, Fr. James Brent, O.P. calls us back to the Cross and to the living Word that reveals the mercy, tenderness, and love of God. Through passages from Scripture and the witness of Mary, who pondered the Word in her heart, this episode encourages us to meditate deeply on the love God pours into our souls through Christ and the Holy Spirit.
A contemplative reflection on faith, Scripture, and the healing power of divine love.

Bonus Episode: Mary, Seat of Wisdom and the Indwelling Trinity | Contemplata | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
In this bonus episode of Contemplata, Fr. James Brent, O.P., reflects on Mary, Seat of Wisdom, and the interior life of grace in the soul. The Christian life is not only belief in the mystery of the Holy Trinity, but participation in it: being formed by the Son, led by the Holy Spirit, and drawn to the Father in prayer.
At the center of this hidden life is the gift of wisdom, by which we come to know and experience God dwelling within us. Within this mystery, the Blessed Virgin Mary has a maternal role in the order of grace, interceding so that Christ may be formed in us and that we may become contemplative souls.
Fr. Brent reflects on Mary’s memory, her pondering heart, and her contemplative gaze upon the life of Christ, showing how the Rosary draws us into her prayer. In praying the Rosary, we are united to her contemplation and, as St. John Paul II teaches, mystically drawn to her side.
The episode also considers the spiritual power of the Rosary, its capacity to order the soul toward God, and the grace given through faithful prayer of its mysteries, even in their fullness each day.

How Baptism Changes You | Contemplata Ep 52 | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
In Episode 52 of Contemplata, Fr. James Brent, O.P., takes a closer look at something we often take for granted: what actually happens in baptism.
We say that baptism gives us life, but not just the kind of life we already have. In baptism, something new begins. We receive a share in God’s own life, the life of the Most Holy Trinity, dwelling within us.
Fr. James walks through this mystery in a simple way, helping us see how this gift goes beyond every form of life we know. It is not symbolic or abstract. It is real, and it changes us.
With this life comes grace: faith, hope, and love, along with the virtues that help us live it out day by day. And it is not meant to stay small. It is meant to grow.
Baptism is the beginning of a new life. This episode is an invitation to remember what we have been given and to let it take root.

Bonus Episode: The Mystery of the Holy Trinity | Contemplata | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
In this bonus episode of Contemplata, Fr. James Brent, O.P., reflects on the mystery of the Holy Trinity and the meaning of our lives in light of it.
We were created to know God, not from a distance, but from within. Through grace, we are invited to become contemplative souls, drawn into the life of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is our calling, our inheritance, and the deepest purpose of being human: to participate in the life of the Trinity through prayer, adoration, and love.
Listen to the full episode and enter more deeply into the mystery of the Holy Trinity.

Bonus Episode: The Holy Eucharist and the Life of Grace | Contemplata | Fr. James Brent, O.P.
In this bonus audio from Contemplata, we turn our attention to the Holy Eucharist—the gift that stands above every other gift given to the Church.
Drawing from the tradition of the saints and the Church’s own prayer, this meditation reflects on the unique power of the Eucharist in our sanctification. While many paths of prayer and devotion have been given to us, the Eucharist is not simply one among many—it is the Lord himself, given to us, working within us.
This reflection considers the Eucharist not only as a source of grace, but as its cause: actively forming charity in the soul, uniting us to Christ, and giving to each person exactly what is needed for that day.
Featuring a prayer attributed to Saint Basil the Great, this episode invites you to approach Holy Communion with greater faith, expectation, and devotion.
A quiet, substantial meditation to accompany your prayer.

Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage Novena | June 2026 | Fr. Walter Wagner, O.P.
Month six of the 2026 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage nine-month novena is here.
Fr. Walter Wagner, O.P., pastor of Saint Thomas Aquinas University Parish and homilist for the 2026 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, offers this month's reflection. This past Easter, his parish welcomed 92 people into the Church through baptism, reception into full communion, and confirmation. But behind that joy, Fr. Walter sits with a harder question: Will they stay?
His answer turns to Mary. At the finding of the child Jesus in the temple, she did not simply move on from what she could not understand. She kept all these things in her heart, returning to the mystery again and again. Fr. Walter calls her the first Christian practitioner of contemplation, and invites us into that same practice through the Rosary.
As we move through the ups and downs of human experience, the Rosary draws us back, again and again, to the unceasing and unfailing mastery of God.
Join us in praying the fifth month of the novena, and in preparing for the Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage on September 26, 2026, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.

Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage Novena | April 2026 | Fr. Timothy Danaher, O.P.
We invite you to hear Fr. Timothy Danaher, O.P., chaplain of Aquinas House at Dartmouth College, as he reflects on the Holy Rosary and leads us in prayer through the Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage Novena. Join us in uniting your intentions with ours as we prepare for the Pilgrimage.
Fr. Timothy describes the Rosary as something both deeply human and deeply divine—rooted in nature and in the history of the Church. From children intuitively recognizing prayer, to monastic life shaped by rhythm and labor, to the Dominican tradition of praying with beads in common life, the Rosary emerges as a prayer woven into the lived experience of the Church across the centuries.
He offers a striking analogy to a four-day golf tournament in April, where each day builds on the last, much like the four sets of mysteries of the Rosary. Together, they form a complete spiritual journey centered on Christ, with Mary at our side.

Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage Novena | February 2026 | Fr. John Paul Kern, O.P.
Enter more deeply into Lent by praying the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary with the Dominican Friars.
In this February Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage Novena reflection, Fr. John Paul Kern invites us to contemplate Christ’s Passion through the Most Holy Rosary — uniting ourselves to his Agony in the Garden, his Scourging, his Crowning with Thorns, his carrying of the Cross, and his saving Death on Calvary.
During this sacred season, the Church draws our attention to the mystery of salvation revealed in the Cross. By meditating on these mysteries with Our Lady, we are conformed more closely to Jesus Christ and strengthened by grace to carry our own crosses in hope of the Resurrection.

At the 2025 Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, Fr. Andrew Hofer, O.P., shared a powerful homily on the Rosary as our chain of hope—a prayer that lifts us, strengthens us, and unites us to God and one another.
Fr. Hofer reminded pilgrims that hope is more than wishing for good; it is a theological virtue infused by God, keeping us rooted in Him even in the midst of life’s struggles. He shared the inspiring story of Blessed Bartolo Longo, who overcame despair through the Rosary and devoted his life to spreading it.
“Pick up a rosary, and you lay hold of eternal life. Pray for yourselves, for your loved ones, and for your enemies. Never give up—never give up on God,” Fr. Hofer said.
